WCE Hosts Future Teacher Conference for High School Teacher Cadets

Seventy students enrolled in Teacher Cadet programs at high schools in southeastern North Carolina participated in the Future Teacher Conference held at the Watson College on Nov. 14.

The full-day conference featured a workshop in STEM Robotics by CESTEM assistant director Christopher Gordon and a presentation on English as a Second Language (ESL) by Allen Lynn. Alexia Poole, a graduate student in the middle grades MAT program, and Taylor Spear from Isaac Bear Early College also spoke at the event.

Students toured the campus, learned about the college admissions process and enjoyed a complimentary lunch during the conference, coordinated by Amy Rottmann, WCE’s director of Student Engagement and Recruitment.

Another conference for Teacher Cadets is planned for March 6.

The North Carolina Teacher Cadet Program is a structured course of study that encourages high school students to consider entering the education profession through the program’s long-term focus on “growing our own” public school teachers. For more information, visitwww.ncteachercadet.org/about-us.
