Honors Students Clean Up The Beach

Tuesday, August 30, 2016

More than 100 UNCW Honors College students took part in the 2016 Honors Beach Sweep, an annual tradition where students collect trash in natural areas around Kure Beach.

"For 16 years, the new Honors students have helped clean up the Cape Fear area that is now their home,” said Kate Bruce, Honors College director. “We want them to be aware of ways to help care for our beach environment. The Beach Sweep is a great way to do this while also giving them a chance to meet each other and talk with local officials about environmental issues.”

Kure Beach Mayor Emilie Swearingen presented the group an award in recognition of their work. It reads: “In Grateful Appreciation For Your Continued Dedication And Support In Helping To Keep Our Beaches Clean and Safe.”
