The first North Carolina All-State Guitar Festival will be hosted by The University of North Carolina Wilmington on June 20-21, 2015. This event is designed for outstanding guitar students in middle and high school, ages 12-18. Participating students will have the opportunity to perform in the NC Honors Guitar Ensemble, audition to play a solo piece in the student honors concert, attend featured artist concerts, and perform in master classes held by the featured artists. The purpose of this festival is to give younger guitarists the chance to showcase their ability, collaborate with fellow guitarists across the state, and learn from professional guitarists. Featured artists include Matt Palmer, Rob Nathanson, Justin Hoke, The Cypress Duo, and more.

Mission Statement:

When I was a young guitarist growing up in North Carolina I was envious of my friends who were able to audition for All-State Honors Orchestra, Band, and Chorus. I wanted the same chance that they had to challenge themselves, meet other dedicated musicians, and be proud of my musical accomplishments. The mission of the NC All-State Guitar Festival is to give younger guitar students the same learning experience that orchestral, band, and choral students have with their all-state programs. During the NC All-State Guitar Festival, participants will be exposed to different types of guitar music, professional artists, and fellow guitar students. Many other states such as New Mexico, Florida, and Virginia currently have all-state guitar events for pre-college students. I am thrilled to direct the first all-state guitar event in my home state of North Carolina.
