Notice of Part-time Faculty Vacancy: Violin/Viola Instructor

The University of North Carolina Wilmington, located in the southeastern region of North Carolina, near the historic district of Wilmington, four miles from the Cape Fear River and five miles west of Wrightsville Beach and the Atlantic Ocean is ranked sixth in the 2009 U.S.News & World Report listing of the top public regional undergraduate universities in the South. The Music Department at UNCW includes a dedicated faculty of internationally recognized artists and teachers and is known for its small class sizes and extensive performance opportunities. As an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music, the Department of Music is committed to the highest standards of excellence in teaching students who will become the artists and teachers of the future.

POSITION: The Department of Music seeks a violin/viola instructor. This is a part-time faculty position. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


a. Teaching applied lessons to music majors and minors.
b. Preparing students for performance seminars and juries
c. Participation in Department of Music events and recruiting activities in district high schools and the community


Opportunities may be available for coaching chamber music groups and performing in faculty ensembles.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will be an energetic and enthusiastic teacher/performer with both educational and professional qualifications and experience. Master’s degree required.

SALARY: In accordance with UNCW Department of Music established salary schedule for part-time faculty.

d. three letters of recommendation referencing both teaching and performing experience.

Finalists will be asked to provide original undergraduate and graduate transcripts
DO NOT SEND recordings or concert programs. They may be requested at a later time.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Finalists will be invited to an on-campus interview that includes a teaching demonstration. The final selection will be made no later than July 30 with the appointment to begin in August (2009).
