Issues management maintains an ongoing surveillance of current events, social and demographic trends and public policy decisions with potential impact on the university. Through a consistent scan of media outlets, internet sources and special interest groups, we can more effectively shape the dialogue on issues with the potential to impact the university and provide more informed and timely responses.
Though all issues are unique and information availability can vary, our topical research normally includes the following:
- What is the situation?
- Who are the key influential audiences?
- What is the strategic importance to UNCW?
- How has this situation played out nationally/internationally?
- How did the media portray the situation?
- What questions did the media ask? How have colleagues at other universities and in industry handled the response well? What mistakes were made in their strategic response? If it could be done all over, how would their response been different?
- What is the readiness strategy for UNCW, both in terms of communications and the affected professional areas?
- Are there issues or concern that, if left unchecked, would blindside you or be a missed opportunity?
Our staff can find the background information (direct information, position papers or a topical analysis) you need to make more informed decisions, before they become your issues.
