Community Relations

University of North Carolina Wilmington faculty and staff take great pride in educating more than 12,000 students each year while being engaged in cutting-edge research, scholarship, and civic engagement that improve the quality of life in our region.  They take equal pride in being good neighbors and citizens.

One of our seven strategic goals focuses on regional engagement.  Our employees are active in a broad range of civic, educational and professional organizations at the local, regional, state, and national levels.  During academic year 2005-06, UNCW students contributed more than 30,000 hours of volunteer, community service, and service-learning hours with an economic value of $544,339 based on the Independent Sector’s $18.04 dollar value of one volunteer hour.

A component of university Marketing and Communications, the Community Relations office establishes and fosters greater public awareness of the university through active and responsive community relationships that focus on the timely release of information to important audiences.  It also seeks to increase community awareness of how the university is improving the quality of life of citizens in the Greater Wilmington area and the state.
