Surf-n-Art: Ages 14-17

Must have completed 8th grade and turn 14 by June 1st. Must not turn 18 before July 31st.

Get stoked for a "swell" week of learning the art behind surfing while you rip it up on the big blue ocean with MarineQuest's Surf-n-Art program. This week long surfing intensive program has paired surfing with Art to provide young surfing enthusiasts the opportunity to develop surfing skills while gaining an education in the marketing and art behind the surfer culture. Learn how surfing has inspired the artists around coastal NC and how the culture has developed into the market it is today. Explore the surf industry, photography, and marketing of the surfer craze and create your own surf art project.  Familiarize yourself with surfing and paddle boarding equipment, techniques, and safety while gaining the skills needed to become a lifelong surfer. You will leave Surf-n-Art with a surfer's tan, projects for your portfolio and a smile on your face!

Field excursions include:

  • Wrightsville Beach, Kure Beach, UNCW Center for Marine Science, Coastal Ecosystems

Highlights include:

  • Daily surfing lessons; experience paddle boarding; interaction with surfing professionals; beach trips; beginners surfing contest; discussions of surf culture, marketing, photography, and surf art project

Sunday / Monday - Friday

Time:

8:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.

Friday pick-up/final presentation at 1:00 p.m.

Residential students must arrive on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. while commuting students join the program Monday at 8:00 a.m.

You must register by 5:00 p.m. the Wednesday before your program is to begin.

To complete the teacher recommendation, please have your teacher click here  to submit their recommendation.

Please Note: A completed application does not register you for your program. All applications will first be reviewed by the MarineQuest Staff and upon acceptance, you will receive an e-mail explaining the next step in the registration process.
