Josh has worked with LGBTQIA students since the Fall of 2010, when he first spoke about this experiences as a United States Marine Corps during "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". That following Summer, he was the LGBTQIA Resource Office's first Undergraduate Intern and created the UNC System's first Peer Mentoring Program. During his undergraduate career at UNCW, he served in the Student Government Association as the Non-Traditional Student Senator. In this role, he authored a Resolution opposing NC Amendment One, passing the Senate with an overwhelming majority. Later, he would provide leadership for a group of students adovcating for the LGBTQIA Resource Office moving to a more suitable space. Due to his advocacy, he was awarded the Julia Boseman Student Leadership Award and SGA Member of the Year. Realizing his passion for working with LGBTQIA students, Josh is pursuing the M.Ed. in Higher Education and hopes to work with these students as an LGBT Resource Professional.
Josh currently serves as the Graduate Representative on the LGBTQIA Resource Office Advisory Board, Volunteer Coordinator for GLSEN Cape Fear, Graduate Representative for the WCE Diversity Committee, and President of the UNCW Student Organization Q-MAGNoT (Queer Military-Affiliated, Graduate, and Non-Traditional students).
