UNCW faculty, staff and students can enjoy several information services on their mobile devices. In collaboration with Mobile Education, LLC, a faculty led technology start-up company, UNCW has initiated the mobile services project to explore and develop innovative mobile phone applications. These include text message (short message service or SMS) applications and Apple iPhone applications.

Outlook Mobile Service
Outlook Mobile Service is a feature in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 that you may use to create and send text messages to a mobile device from within Outlook in a manner similar to e-mail messages. By using Outlook Mobile Service, you can send a message both as an e-mail message and as a mobile message to multiple contacts at the same time. You can stay informed when you are away from the office because Outlook Mobile Service can forward the e-mail messages and calendar appointments that you choose directly to your mobile phone. For instructions about setting up and registering with Outlook Mobile Service, see http://oms.uncw.edu |

Coupons To Your Phone
Mobile coupons are the newest form of advertising! Simply text a keyword for a business to the short code 90947, just as if you were texting a friend, and a text message coupon will be returned to you for that particular business. To redeem the coupon, show the text message on your phone to a sales associate when you visit the business. You can request coupons one at a time, or you may register to have them sent automatically each week. Mobile Education will never send you spam. You will only receive the coupons that you request. Dub Hunt
Dub Hunt is scavenger hunt game in which teams of students receive text message questions about the campus. When the team finds the answer they text it in and receive a question about another area of campus. Students using the game have had a lot of fun, and UNCW looks forward to offering this game as part of the freshman seminar courses this coming year.
See http://dubhunt.com for more information.
SMS Locker
SMS Locker is a mobile storage application that allows users to store key/value pairs through text messages on a cell phone. Users can store messages in both plain text or encrypted format in our secure data center and then retrieve the information later, via text message on their cell phone. The encrypted (secure) version requires users to supply a secret word (password) to encode the message before storing or retrieving it.
