UNCW’s Cyber Defense Team Receives Second Place Trophy at the SECCDC
Monday, March 11, 2013
Information Technology Systems (ITS) is proud to report that UNCW’s Cyber Defense Team (CDC) received the trophy for Second Place at the Southeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (SECCDC). Two ITS student workers, Bryant Blevins and Dan Wuensch, are part of the team of nine students who participated in the three-day competition from March 5 – March 7.
After making it through a Virtual Preliminary Qualification competition in February, UNCW was one of the top eight teams to be invited to the onsite regional competition hosted by Kennesaw State University. The other qualifying universities were: Clemson, Florida State, Kennesaw State, Mercer, Southern Polytechnic State, University of Central Florida and the University of North Carolina Charlotte. The teams were given the task of securing systems while they were bombarded with business injections and were under attack by hackers, among numerous other tasks. UNCW’s team prepared for this event by relentlessly working and learning together outside of their full time academic schedules.
Winning the Second Place prize is a great honor for the UNCW team and can be contributed to the hard work and dedication of all the CDC students. Congratulations to our ITS students and the entire team! Additional details here.
