Wireless Upgraded in Randall Library
Tuesday, June 21, 2011
The UNCW wireless network continues to gain usage throughout the campus, and in some locations it is being utilized as the primary network. Because of this increasing wireless popularity, ITSD is in the process of upgrading various wireless areas on campus. Students' needs are a primary consideration in determining which areas to focus on when upgrading coverage. The success of the Randall Learning Commons has caused the library's first floor wireless network to become saturated; thus, ITSD has recently upgraded the first floor with the latest wireless technology, 802.11n.
As budgets allow, ITSD plans to upgrade the second floor of the library as well. In order to best meet the needs of students, ITSD also will be expanding wireless coverage in the residential areas of campus during the summer, using a phased approach in conjunction with Housing and Residence Life.
