International students applying to UNCW should check the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid website for general information.
The Office of International Programs
coordinates two scholarship opportunities for international students.
Please read the information below for detailed information on each.
1. The Rotary Club of Wilmington Scholarship
Amount: $1,800 per academic year. Awardees may reapply each year.
Terms: Recipients of the Rotary Club of Wilmington Scholarship must have completed at least one semester at UNCW and earned a minimum grade point average of 3.0. The Rotary Club of Wilmington expects that students demonstrate potential for service to their home country.
To apply, students must submit to the Office of International Programs:
- International Student Scholarship Application
- UNCW Transcript (unofficial is fine)
- Reference from a UNCW professor
- Essay
- Essay Topic: Write an essay describing how you will realize the Rotary Club’s goal of serving your home country.
- Essay Length: 250 - 500 words
Application deadline: July 15
Award winner announced: August 15
2. International Student Ambassador Scholarship
Amount: a one-time award of $6,000 for the academic year, only available in the student's first year of attendance at UNCW.
Terms: Recipients of the International Student Ambassador Scholarship are required to give presentations about their home country to classes at the university and to local schools and are required to serve as International Student Orientation volunteers.
To apply, students must submit to the Office of International Programs:
- International Student Scholarship Application
- Transcript from your most recent institution (unofficial is fine)
- Essay
- Essay Topic: Pretend that you have been asked to give a presentation to a group of UNCW students. Your essay should focus on how studying abroad makes you a global citizen and why you chose to attend UNCW.
- Essay Length: at least 500 words
Application deadline: July 15

Fellowships and Grants for Polish Citizens
Awards range from $7,650 to $30,500 depending on the duration and award category. The awards range from three to ten months as determined by the foundation. Application deadline is October. For more information visit:

Funding Opportunities for Citizens of Japan
The College Women's Association of Japan will provide two scholarships of 3 million yen each to support graduate study at English-speaking universities and research institutions abroad for women who are nationals or special permanent residents of Japan. The application deadline is September. There also seems to be an opportunity for non-Japanese women who are residing in Japan to receive scholarships to continue study in Japan.
