Help us graduate globally competitive Seahawks! Create a study abroad scholarship. Support an international student coming to UNCW. Establish an endowment to encourage faculty or staff exchanges. These are a few ways you can contribute to UNCW's efforts to realize the strategic goal to "create an environment that encourages our students to become global citizens."
Students from every discipline across campus benefit from the transformative international experience. In addition to taking classes in traditional classroom settings, students abroad serve as interns, volunteer at NGOs, participate in service-learning projects, engage in field experiences, complete student teaching and nursing clinicals and more. Recent research suggests that study abroad improves retention and graduation rates in addition to broadening one's cultural and, perhaps linguistic, horizons. Moreover, study abroad increases chances of employment after graduation. Many future employers view an immersion experience as a significant resume asset because study abroad returnees prove to be confident and independent problem solvers. They negotiate difficult situations, thrive in a diverse environment, and embrace diversity.
UNCW faculty and staff are engaged in teaching, research, and service activities that have an impact around the globe. Faculty and staff are integral to creating the academic environment that nurtures global perspectives in the classroom, in the lab, on the stage, at a workshop or conference, or in the community. Without their creative and analytical minds, our students would not become world class leaders.
