The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the planning and execution of a comprehensive Annual Giving program designed to continue building support for UNCW. The Director oversees the phonathon and manages the annual fund website, e-solicitations, e-acknowledgements, direct mail, and personal solicitations, to increase both annual gift income, and the number of alumni who participate. The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of annual fund donors and prospects, including friends of the university, alumni, faculty, staff and giving clubs, with a focus on acquiring and increasing gifts in support of UNCW. The work involves a high level of contact with individuals inside and outside the university and therefore requires advanced interpersonal and communication skills. The variety of duties implies the need for excellent time management, the ability to prioritize and excellent record keeping abilities. Access to sensitive materials assumes a high degree of confidentiality. Position reports to the associate vice chancellor for development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree required; Masters Degree preferred; plus 5-7 years of related work experience is required.
- Minimum of three years in an annual giving office.
- Three years supervisory and management experience.
- Experience in fundraising and donor relations at an institution of higher education or other substantial non-profit organization;
- Demonstrated skills in gift solicitation;
- Strong organizational and communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the ability to motivate prospective donors;
- Ability to be an articulate spokesperson on behalf of the advancement division.
- Ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with a diverse constituency.
- Experience with Banner fundraising software program is preferred, but not required.
