The Science and Mathematics Education Center within the Watson School of Education is seeking an Assistant Director. This is an eleven-month, full-time, non-teaching position. The Center is a member of the North Carolina Mathematics and Science Education Network, a comprehensive, statewide program aimed at significantly upgrading mathematics and science education. It is composed of eleven centers; each housed at a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina.
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
- Masters degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in a science or math-based field;
- Demonstration of experience working with the target populations of SMEC and SVSM programs;
- Experience teaching in K-12 classrooms with a science or math content;
- Experience directing activities requiring organization, management and leadership skills;
- Experience with public/private K-12 school systems and university faculty/administrators;
- Knowledge of organizational, operational and structural functions of K-12 schools;
- Knowledge of current office computer applications;
- Ability to work without constant supervision; and
- Demonstration of excellent oral and written communication skills.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications with a maximum of $49,481 for 11 months. And, a one month summer stipend may be possible.
