Assistant Professor - Scenic & Lighting Design

The Department of Theatre at the University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks a tenure track Assistant Professor in scenic and lighting design to begin August, 2014. Responsibilities include teaching scenic and lighting design introductory, advanced, and lab courses and designing four productions (eight total designs) per year. Some designs may involve supervising advanced undergraduate students or facilitating the work of an external guest designer by serving as liaison between the guest artist and the resident production manager/technical director. A typical year will consist of six personal designs and two supervised or facilitated designs.
The Department of Theatre B.A. program provides a liberal arts education coupled with applied instruction in three concentration areas: performance, design and technology, and a customized option. Under the guidance of a talented, dedicated faculty and staff, approximately 140 undergraduate majors and minors occupy an elegant 300-seat proscenium theatre and 125-seat flexible studio space. In addition, students work in a variety of other on- and off-campus venues through applied learning projects, extra-curricular activities, and as community volunteers. Department alumni thrive in graduate programs as scholars, designers, and performers and enjoy professional credits in theatre, film, television and related industries.

Qualifications: Applicants must possess an MFA or other terminal degree in Theatre with an emphasis in scenic and lighting design. Beyond design responsibilities, candidates must demonstrate potential for excellent teaching, significant creative productivity, and service to the department and university.
