The University of North Carolina Wilmington announces an opening for the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations. UNCW is an NCAA Division I program and member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations reports to the Director of Athletics and serves as a member of the athletics’ executive leadership team. As part of the university shared services initiative, this position will have a dual reporting role to the university Budget Office Director for all budget related matters. This position is the fiscal authority for budgets, revenues and expenditures and will provide leadership in long range planning, forecasting, development and managing of receipt, operating and capital budgets; provide oversight for the auditing, reconciling and reporting of financial transactions and information and supervise the accountability of all financial operations; provide strategic leadership in the development of new revenue streams; and negotiating favorable contracts on behalf of the department in conjunction with university General Counsel; manage the athletic department Human Resources functions and manage the implementation of the department’s strategic plan. This position must formulate, interpret, monitor, and implement institutional policies and procedures as it relates to the fiscal and budgetary responsibilities for the athletic department business operations. In addition, ensure fiscal compliance with the university, State of North Carolina, CAA and NCAA policies and procedures.
The position supervises business and administrative support employees in the athletics department.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Management with a concentration in Accounting, or directly related field is required; CPA or MBA preferred. At least seven years of interpretive or analytical accounting/budgeting experience required including at least two years of financial/fiscal experience in intercollegiate athletics preferably at a NCAA division I level athletics program. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with strategic planning, fiscal budgeting and management, and NCAA rules and compliance issues concerning administration of intercollegiate athletics are required. Excellent communication skills, proven supervisory, management and leadership experience.
