The Department of Theatre B.A. program offers a liberal arts education featuring a solid academic core coupled with applied, pre-professional instruction in three options: performance, design and technology, and customized. Approximately 120 undergraduate majors, 20 minors. Faculty, staff, and students occupy a thirty-four million dollar Cultural Arts Building. The facility features a 300-seat proscenium theatre, 100-seat flexible studio theatre, scenic and costume design/fabrication shops, design classroom, computer lab, lecture hall, and traditional as well as seminar classrooms equipped with multi-media.
Annually, the department mounts five productions, including a Student Lab Series show. In addition, opportunities for student work continue to expand through applied learning projects, extracurricular activities, and off-campus performance venues. Students are educated and trained to succeed in graduate programs as scholars, designers, production managers, technicians, and performers. Many have achieved professional credits in theatre, film, television, and related industries. The department seeks to increase student enrollment in all B.A. options, especially design and technology and customized.
In consultation with the faculty, the Chair facilitates policy/procedure construction and compliance, strategic planning, faculty/staff hiring and evaluation, budget management, class scheduling, and student advising. In addition, the Chair oversees departmental productions. Additional responsibilities include teaching one course per semester (or the equivalent) in a specialty area.

Qualifications: Candidates must have an MFA or other terminal degree in theatre and currently hold the rank of full professor (or present credentials commensurate with appointment at that rank at UNCW). We seek an individual with academic administrative experience (preferably as a department chair), demonstrable achievement in professional or academic leadership, a distinguished artistic and/or scholarly record, passion for liberal arts theatre training, and enthusiasm as well as aptitude for curricular and fiscal development.
