Employment Eligibility Verification Program
As a result of the ratification of Senate Bill 1523 on July 27, 2006, each State Agency, Department, Institution, University, Community College and Local Education Agency will be required to electronically verify the legal employment eligibility of all new employees. This electronic verification will be completed in accordance with the Employment Eligibility Verification Program (EEV), administered by the United States Department of Citizenship and Immigration Services. The requirement will apply to all new UNCW employees – SPA, EPA, faculty, temporary, and student workers -- hired on or after January 1, 2007. The on-line check will typically provide an immediate response of either a social security number match or mismatch. If there is a mismatch between the social security number, name, and birth date, the employee will be directed to visit Social Security Administration office to resolve the problem. The employee will have a form to take to the Social Security Administration (SSA) office. The employee must return within 8 days and present the form stamped by the SSA office. If the employee refuses to go to the SSA office, then it is presumed the individual has a fraudulent social security number and their employment will be terminated.
