Master of Education (M.Ed.) in

Middle Grades Education

Goal of Program:

Focuses on middle level education in recognizing that teachers of young adolescents need specialized professional preparation and continuous professional development as they pursue their careers.

Program Audience:

  • Middle Level Education specialization, provides advanced training for individuals holding, or qualified to hold, North Carolina Class "A" teacher licensure in at least one area of middle grades education (6‐9).

Program Highlights:

  • Demonstrate a depth and breadth of general knowledge in the field of Middle Level Education.
  • Demonstrate a well‐articulated knowledge of 6‐9 communities.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills that can be utilized when interacting with
    colleagues, administrators, and families.
  • Design, implement, and assess effective instruction, with particular emphasis on integrated
    curriculum and active learning strategies.
  • Establish a classroom environment sensitive to the cultural and linguistic needs of all students.
  • Use technology to enhance the academic achievement of elementary learners.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership within the 6‐9 school environment.
