Anne Russell has earned a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Hawaii, an MS in Urban Studies from Georgia State University, an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and she is a certified mediator. She has been a professor of communications at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. A former entertainment editor of the Raleigh News and Observer, she was also director of the arts for the City of Raleigh. Her writing includes Wilmington, A Pictorial History, the 1898 commemorative drama No More Sorrow to Arise, The Talented Tenth documentary, and the screenplay Midnight at the School for Common Sense which depicts the life of the legendary Fort Fisher Hermit.
