Loan Information
To be eligible to receive federal student loans, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and be enrolled at least half-time.
Loans may be offered as part of a student’s financial aid package at UNCW. Loans must be repaid.
The following loans are available for the student and family to consider:
- Federal Direct StudentLoans
- Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
- Federal PLUS Loan for Graduate Students
- Federal Perkins Loan
- Non-Federal Loans - UNCW strongly encourages families to consider all sources of federal funding before applying for an alternative or Non-Federal Loan.
Entrance Counseling and the completion of a Master Promissory Note (MPN) are REQUIRED for all students borrowing federal student loans and/or federal PLUS Loans for graduate students at UNCW for the first time. Entrance counseling and the MPN may be completed, on-line, at www.studentloans.gov.
Students and parents are notified of loan disbursements to students’ accounts within 30 days of those disbursements. Students and parents have the right to cancel federal loans anytime during the academic year. Any such cancellation will be charged back to the student’s account creating a charge to the university. Grade transcripts and diplomas are not released if a student has an account balance.
