Summer School Financial Aid Application

Please read carefully before completing the application.

  1. Prior to applying for the Summer 2013 term, your 2012-13 financial aid file must be complete.

  2. You must be in compliance with all three Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress (Cumulative GPA, Hours Earned, and Maximum Time Limit) at the end of the Spring Semester.

  3. There is no federal aid available for Permission/Visiting Students, Special Undergraduate, or Unclassified Students. If you are a visiting student, please check with your home school for financial aid options during summer term.

  4. Before submitting this form, meet with your Academic Advisor, and, if possible, pre-register for all summer classes you intend to take. It is very important that this application reflect the correct number of hours for which you will actually be enrolled. If the application does not match actual enrollment, disbursements may be delayed or you may be required to return funds already paid to you.

  5. All communication regarding your Summer Financial Aid Application to include notification of your eligibility will be through your UNCW email address. Please be sure to monitor your e-mail for updates and information regarding the summer application process.

  6. To receive a Federal Pell Grant for Summer school, you must have eligibility remaining due to part time enrollment during fall and/or spring semesters. For example:

    • If you did not use the Pell Grant as a full time student in both fall and spring, you may be eligible for the Pell Grant for summer term.

    • Also, students graduating in July 2013 or December 2013 should file the 2013-14 FAFSA. If your Pell Grant eligibility for 13-14 is determined to be higher than your 12-13 eligibility, you may be able to utilize those funds based on your mid-year graduation.

  7. To receive a federal subsidized and/or unsubsidized direct loan for Summer school, all the following apply:

    • You must have remaining loan eligibility for 2012-13

    • Undergraduate students who advanced from freshman to sophomore status or sophomore to junior status during the 2012-13 academic year may be eligible to borrow additional federal subsidized and/or unsubsidized direct loans for summer.

    • You must meet the following enrollment requirements:

Undergraduates must enroll for a minimum of 6 semester hours during Summer.

Graduate students must enroll a minimum of 4.5 semester hours during Summer. NOTE: graduates who hold a teaching or research assistantship or are enrolled for 0 to 3 hours of thesis work are considered full-time

  8. Loan disbursement will occur only when you actively enrolled and attending the required number of hours to be considered half-time. For example, an undergraduate student enrolled in 3 semester hours in Summer session I and 3 hours in Summer session II will have loan funds disbursed at the start of Summer session II. All students who have split enrollment should plan to pay for books and other expenses in advance. NOTE: Emergency loans cannot be used in advance of a scheduled refund based on split enrollment.

  9. You will have only one opportunity to submit this application from this website. Please contact the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid in writing to make any changes to the enrollment status once this form has been submitted. You may send an e-mail to finaid@uncw.edu or directly to your financial aid counselor with the updated information.
