Sam (played by another UNCW Grad, Jim Mahorney) just got a new job, and Adam(Nate Panning from the Hank and Jed comedy team), has just been fired...from the same job. They do not learn of their similarities until Sam goes home to his girlfriend's house and finds another man's wallet. Looking at the ID inside he sees that it belongs the guy he just met in the bar, Adam. 3D Camera Demo
Thursday, November 12, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM @ Screen Gems
Silicon Imaging, the company that enabled the digital shooting of Slumdog Millionaire, is changing the face of stereo production with SI-3D. SI-3D is the world’s first integrated 3D cinema-quality camera and stereo visualization system. The 3D content can be instantly edited without the need for proxy conversion or ingestion. SI-3D streamlines the entire stereo–3D content acquisition and post-production workflow. This workshop will give attendees the opportunity to experience the 3D workflow from acquisition through editing to display. Attendees will have hands-on experience with the SI-3D camera system.
Cameraless Film
Saturday, November 14, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM @ Screen Gems Room 32
Cameraless filmmaking, or direct film manipulation, involves using the physical filmstrip as a canvas on which to draw, paint, paste objects, etc. In this 3-hour workshop hosted by Shannon and Andre Silva, attendees will learn about the art of cameraless filmmaking (an art almost as old as cinema itself) as it has been employed by animators and experimental filmmakers throughout film history. Then, workshoppers will have a chance to manipulate filmstrips through such techniques as scratching, painting and magazine ink transfers. The results of student creativity will be projected. All materials will be provided.
Dealing with Real Sound
Friday, November 13, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM @ Screen Gems Studios
Alexander Markowski uses two films, Roller Girls and Two Hours in the Dark, as examples of documentary sound recording. There are many ways to smooth out and clean up a rough production soundtrack. In this workshop, attendees will learn techniques to clean up location recordings that are not ideal and make them work with the film.
Distribution 3.0
Saturday, November 14, 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM @ Screen Gems Studios
You finished your feature--now what? This informal workshop demystifies the process of independent film distribution. What does a distributor do? How do you get one? What should you expect in your negotiations, and what are the pitfalls of distribution? Moderated by Todd Berliner, Associate Professor of Film Studies at UNCW, this panel discussion features Gary Laudgren, director of Calvin Marshall, David Heilbroner, the producer and director of Waiting For Armageddon, and Paul Marchant of First Run Features representing three films: Crude, Waiting For Armageddon, and Off And Running. Together, they will address these questions and answer yours.
Don't Quit Your Day Job
Saturday, November 14, 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM @ Screen Gems Studios
Keeping a day job may be the best way to make real art and pay the rent. In this age of dwindling arts funding, filmmakers who can fund their own projects are often the ones with the most artistic freedom. Self-taught filmmaker J.P. Chan shares his experience in making artistically serious no/low-budget short films that have played for audiences around the world. You'll learn how to make movies and get them seen, as J.P. did, with "no experience, no money, and no connections." This workshop includes: a screening of his award-winning short films, advice on the creative process in filmmaking, equipment, marketing, film festivals, and funding with extensive participant-led discussions.
Legal Tool Kit
Friday, November 13, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM @ Screen Gems Studios
Now that you’ve made a film, is your intellectual property protected? Thom Goolsby, a sought-after trial lawyer and professor of Entertainment Law, will answer all your legal questions about film. In this informal discussion, he will talk about topics all filmmakers should know and understand, such as copyright law and contracts.
Resources for Social Change
Length: 120:00
Saturday, November 14, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Jengo's Playhouse
Inspired by Francine DeCoursey’s in progress documentary on the ‘Wilmington 10’ about members of a non-violent movement being unjustly jailed, and Paul Saltzman’s documentary ‘Prom Night in Mississippi’, evoked by Morgan Freeman’s offer to pay for the first integrated Prom in Charleston Mississippi, Alternate ROOTS - Resources for Social Change (RSC) program will facilitate a ‘Learning Exchange’ using arts-based practices to talk about Wilmington NC today. Through the RSC principles of Power, Partnership, Dialogue, Aesthetics and Transformation we will view selected clips with special guests and explore the history and affects of the construct of race; how learned behavior patterns affect our lives and what we might want to do about that.

Many local actors in the film have worked on UNCW student films as well as were students in the department, like myself. And many of the crew members have helped out on student projects. Also, I spent two months working on this project as my internship for the film studies department.
Please come out and support the Wilmington film industry.
