Academic organization
The Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is the university's
chief academic officer.
The deans of the College and professional schools report
to the Provost. Deans hold "at will" appointments. The deans are the administrative officers responsible
for the programmatic, personnel, and budgetary aspects of the College
and professional schools.
The university uses the traditional academic department structure.
Each department is administered by a chair who is responsible for the
programmatic, personnel, and budgetary aspects of the department. Some
departments have substructures which reflect the size or complexity
of the department. Department chairs hold "at will" appointments, with a normal expectation of a service term,
ranging from three to six years according to the bylaws of the department.
For specific information about a department, college, or school, consult
the handbook of that unit. The department chairs report to the deans.
The department chairperson is the immediate supervisor of each faculty
member in the department.
