UNCW presents the film screening of Speaking in Tongues, an intriguing look at four diverse kids on a journey to become bilingual. At a time when 31 states have passed “English Only” laws, four pioneering families put their children in public schools where, from the first day of kindergarten, their teachers speak mostly in a foreign language. This charming story challenges you to rethink the skills Americans need to succeed in the 21st century.
The screening will take place in Morton Hall Auditorium from 5:30-7 p.m. on Feb. 3. A discussion on foreign language immersion programs and the importance of early exposure to languages will follow the film.
