Department

of English

Welcome to the English Department

Students in English can choose from an exciting variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in such areas as American, British, and world literature; the English language and linguistics; professional writing, including technical writing, business writing, and journalism; expository writing, rhetoric, and composition; and teacher training.

For undergraduates, we offer a bachelor's degree with four options. Majors can focus their studies on literature, professional writing, or teacher preparation, or they can design their own English major through the individualized option.

Majors in other departments can further their love of literature and increase their communication skills by minoring in English. They can also gain a valuable career credential by earning certification in professional writing.

Graduate students can focus their studies in literature, linguistics, rhetoric and composition, literary theory, cultural studies and professional writing.

Our faculty has a well-earned reputation for caring about and working with students, as well as for fine teaching and scholarship. I urge students who are interested in our programs to visit or contact us.
