UNCW Releases Security Video, Image Related to Campus Fires
Seeks Public’s Help to Identify Individual(s) Involved
[UNC Wilmington – April 16, 2013] - UNCW Police today released security video and a still frame image involving two suspicious fires that occurred on campus April 10 and April 11.
"As with most crimes that occur both on- and off-campus, law enforcement relies heavily on tips and 'inside information' to aid in ongoing investigations. We are hoping that anyone with knowledge of these fires, or individuals who may have been involved in starting them, will reach out to us confidentially. Keeping this campus safe is a collective effort among our personnel and our faculty, staff, and students. We need people to lend a hand when they have information that has compromised, or could compromise, the safety and well-being of anyone on this campus," said David Donaldson, UNCW Chief of Police.
The first fire was believed to have started shortly after 11 p.m. April 10, in a patch of grass on the periphery of the parking lot that serves the Seahawk Landing housing community. No injuries or structural damage were reported and campus buildings were never in danger. The second fire was discovered shortly after 10 a.m., April 11. University Police responded to a report of a partially burned and extinguished cloth in a travel lane of the parking deck. No property damage or injuries occurred.
If anyone in the community has any information about either of these fires, they are asked to please contact University Police at (910) 962-2222. Anonymous reports can be submitted online via www.UNCW.edu/police, or by phone at (910) 962-TIPS.
