About Program

Synergy, UNCW’s Common Reading Experience, supports the university mission of integration of teaching, research, and service, stimulation of intellectual curiosity, imagination, critical thinking, and thoughtful expression.  The program supports goal one of the Strategic Plan: Create the most powerful learning experience possible for our students.

All students (and faculty and staff) are encouraged to participate in the Common Reading Experience; however, incoming freshmen will receive the book at Orientation to read over the summer.  During the Fall, the book will be used in Freshman Seminar and various courses of the faculty's chosing.  There will be events surrounding the book and its topics during the Fall semester, including lectures, discussion groups, films and performances.
