Project Protégé - September


Project Protégé is a mentor program coordinated by the UNCW Communication Studies Society to help students learn more about careers in communication-related fields. Through the program, students get the opportunity to meet and network with local professionals in the fields of public relations, marketing, sales, broadcast and print journalism, and human relations. Any student interested in a career in communication is welcome to apply.

Make the Most of Your Major - October & March


Make the Most of Your Major (MMOM) is another event hosted by the Communication Studies Society, which introduces Communication Studies faculty and upcoming course offerings to Pre-Communication Studies students. There are also panel discussions led by Communication professionals

Rock for a Cure - October


As a part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Communication Studies Society hosts Rock for a Cure, a breast cancer benefit concert. In addition to live music at a local venue there is a silent auction and raffle. All proceeds go to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center's Pink Ribbon Project.

Alumni Reception - Homecoming Weekend


What better way to celebrate UNCW Homecoming than with Communication Studies alumni and faculty! The Alumni Reception takes place during Homecoming weekend and is a great opportunity for social networking. It also gives our alumni a chance to catch up with faculty and old friends.

COM Studies Day - March or April


COM Studies Day, also hosted by our Alumni Chapter, provides ample learning opportunities for COM students focused on their futures! These include panels & networking sessions with COM Alumni, a Fashion Show (hosted by CSS) modeling appropriate business attire and a reception & social gathering for everyone.

Awards Reception - December & April


Our Department is one which honors those who do well, this is why twice a year we hold an awards reception at a local venue for our flourishing COM students and faculty. Not only do we celebrate students with Departmental awards but the initiation into our honor society, Lambda Pi Eta, is held during this reception.

Commencement - December & May


As you may have guessed we are a proud and involved department, which is why we like to host a separate commencement for our Communication Studies majors. This gives us the opportunity to show our appreciation for our graduates and provides the students and their families with a more intimate celebration.

Integrated Marketing Communication Conference - June (biennial)


Join us for intriguing panels, social gatherings, receptions and keynote speakers. Summer 2011 IMC/CMM: Finding Common Ground was our first time hosting this conference and it was a hit!
