Initiative for a Secure and Healthy Retirement

The Initiative for a Secure and Healthy Retirement was created on July 1, 2014 as an affiliation agreement between the College of Health and Human Services, the Cameron School of Business and the N.C. American Association for Retired Persons (AARP). The vision for the initiative is to raise awareness and propose solutions to the challenges North Carolinians face in achieving a secure and healthy retirement.

The initiative educates the public about the income security issues of adults older than 50; distributes information to raise awareness on issues such as retirement, healthy and financially-secure aging and the transformation of health care; reaches out for community support via presentations and discussions on policy issues and individual retirement planning; provides retirement assessment workshops for the community and career development internships to promote service jobs for the elderly; and builds alliances with major employers to promote aging-friendly work places.
