Navigating theUNCW Scholarship Application & Deadlines

To apply for scholarships at UNCW, applicants must be an admitted student for the upcoming academic term with access to the SeaNet student portal. Using their assigned student ID number students may access the features within the student portal, including the scholarship application on the Scholarships & Financial Aid Tab.

For consideration of scholarships within the Biology and Marine Biology Department, students must submit their application by March 1st, 2015 to be reviewed by the Biology and Marine Biology Departmental Scholarship Committee!

To apply, students need to complete pages 2-8 of the general application, and page 12 of the Biology and Marine Biology application. Students must also complete page 24 (the acknowledgement page) to be considered. Pages 2-8 of this application contain general questions that pertain to all applicants regardless of your major or year in school. Responses to questions on pages 2-8 and on page 12 may be considered during the review for Biology and Marine Biology Scholarships.

If students wish to be considered for need based scholarships they should also fill out a FAFSA form by March 1st.

Dr. James F. and Frances B. Parnell Fellowship

This fellowship, endowed by Dr. James F. and Frances B. Parnell, is for a deserving graduate student who is studying “some aspect of field oriented terrestrial vertebrate biology." This $500 fellowship is intended for students who have already been accepted into the UNCW Graduate School.  A faculty committee will select the recipient based upon demonstrated academic ability.

The Frances Peter Fensel Memorial Fellowship

The Frances Peter Fensel Memorial Fellowship is established for the purpose of recognizing merit in the area of marine biology at UNCW.

Application forms may be obtained from the biology and marine biology departmental website or the Tri-Beta Bulletin Board in Dobo Hall and returned to the Scholarship Committee, C/O Dr. Linda F. Potts.

Applications are due: TBA

The final selection is made on the basis of: merit and experience. The scholarship is to be awarded to a graduate student seeking a marine biology major at UNCW.

Previous Award:  $3500

The John Colucci Jr. Memorial Scholarship

The John Colucci Jr. Scholarship is established for the purpose of recognizing merit in the area of marine biology at UNCW.

The Ellen G. Wilson Scholarship in Marine Biology

The Ellen G. Wilson Scholarship is established for the purpose of recognizing merit and need in the area of marine biology at UNCW.

Application forms may be obtained from the biology and marine biology departmental website or the Tri-Beta Bulletin Board in Dobo Hall and returned to the Scholarship Committee, C/O Dr. Linda F. Potts.

The final selection is made on the basis of: merit and financial need. Student must have a 3.0 overall GPA. The scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student seeking a degree in marine biology at UNCW.
