Global Focus: HAITI

Global Focus: HAITI is a campuswide exploration of the rich culture and compelling history of our international neighbors to the south. Culminating in a weeklong residency with one of Haiti's premiere dance companies, Compagnie de Danse Jean-René Delsoin, the initiative will feature a line-up of performances, films, lectures and presentations for the campus and community.

The initiative kicks off with a performance by Haitian-American violinist, composer, and educator Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR), and continues with a series of events featuring artists and educators of local and national renown, including Edwidge Danticat, acclaimed Haitian-American author of Breath, Eyes, Memory, which gained national attention when chosen as an Opera Book Club selection in 1998. A range of events will provide audiences an opportunity to explore various themes of Haitian past, present and future.
