ABOUT CAROLINA BALLET
"The best full-evening story ballets of the past quarter-century..."
Terry Teachout, The Washington Post

Carolina Ballet was launched in 1997, under the direction of Artistic Director Robert Weiss, former principal dancer for the New York City Ballet and former Artistic Director of Pennsylvania Ballet in Philadelphia. Internationally recognized for his creative and energetic choreography, Weiss, in a few short years, turned Carolina Ballet into one of the top-ten ballet companies in the country. The Washington Post praises Weiss as a “world-class choreographer” and describes his recent work with Carolina Ballet as “the best full-evening story ballets of the past quarter-century.”

Carolina Ballet consists of an internationally diverse company of 31 dancers and two apprentices, representing nine countries from around the globe. The New York Times recently hailed the ensemble as “characterful, well-disciplined and exciting.”

Carolina Ballet has toured throughout the state and recently completed a prestigious and rare tour of the Peoples Republic of China.

THE CAROLINA BALLET / UNCW SUMMER INTENSIVE & RESIDENCY
A new four-week intensive for the nation's emerging young dancers

Carolina Ballet's new summer intensive at UNCW opens its inaugural session in 2007. The program offers serious dance students an opportunity to work with Carolina Ballet during their summer residency at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

This audition-only intensive offers the unique opportunity for students (age 13 - 21) to witness the world-class artistry of Carolina Ballet, while training with a renowned faculty of experienced professionals. In addition to a rigorous schedule of classes conducted at the university's new state-of-the-art Cultural Arts building, the program offers students the chance to attend special lectures and open company rehearsals.

The intensive culminates in a final student matinee performance at Kenan Auditorium and a Gala Performance by Carolina Ballet on Saturday, July 28. The matinee student performance is free and open to the public. For more information on tickets to the evening performance by the Carolina Ballet, call the Kenan Auditorium Box Office at (910) 962-3500 or (800) 732-3643.
