Local Students to Show Their Smarts during Regional Science Fair at UNCW Feb. 9

Nearly 200 students in grades 3 through 12 will share their science innovations at the annual Southeast Regional Science Fair (SERSF) on Saturday, Feb. 9 in UNC Wilmington's Hanover Gym. Registration begins at 8 a.m., judging will get underway at 9:15 a.m.

Participating students are the winners of 15 different county public and private school science fair competitions. Winning projects recommended by SERSF judges will advance to the North Carolina Science & Engineering Fair in March at Meredith College in Raleigh.

SERSF is hosted by the UNC Wilmington Center for Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CESTEM). CESTEM is dedicated to improving the quality of pre-college science, technology engineering and mathematics education in order to encourage student interest and knowledge in these areas.

Media are encouraged to cover the event during the public viewing period, 12:45-1:45 p.m., and the awards program at 2:30 p.m. Event leaders, participating students and judges will be available for interviews.
