UNCW Schedules Full-Volume Siren Test for Sept. 8
Tuesday, September 02, 2014
Sept. 2, 2014 (Wilmington, N.C.) – A full-volume test of the Seahawk Warning Siren System and the UNCW Alert emergency communication tools is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at 12 p.m., the university announced today.
The Seahawk Warning Siren System is an outdoor emergency warning tool and may not be audible inside university buildings. The communication tools that will be tested in conjunction with the siren include email, desktop, phone and text notifications as well as emergency beacons at CREST Research Park.
No action is required when the siren sounds during the test. In an actual emergency, immediately take shelter indoors, seek further information and wait for an all-clear notification. All-clear notifications will also be distributed as part of the test. In a real emergency, notifications sent in conjunction with the siren may instruct the campus community on actions to take to ensure personal safety.
Only those students, faculty and staff who have voluntarily registered their cell phone numbers with the university will receive UNCW Alert emergency text messages and voicemails during the test and in actual emergency situations.
