Interactive Viewbook Receives Accolades in Educational Advertising Competition

A digital viewbook created for the University of North Carolina Wilmington by Creosote Affects won a Merit Award in the "Interactive Viewbook" category in the 29th Annual Educational Advertising Awards, sponsored by Higher Education Marketing Report. More than 1,000 colleges, universities and secondary schools submitted entries.
The viewbook was a partnership by the UNCW Office of Admissions and University Relations. The marketing firm Creosote Affects captured photography and video, drafted editorial content and developed the piece in HTML 5.
“The digital viewbook allows for prospective students to interact with UNCW without ever setting foot on campus,” says Lauren Scott, associate director of admissions at UNCW. “Given the rapid changes in technology, specifically the rise of mobile technology, the Office of Admissions moved towards a digital viewbook to reach prospective students in a manner that is more cost-effective and impactful.”
During the implementation phase, admissions and university relations staff promoted the piece through the University website, Facebook and emails to prospective students. The book can be launched on web or mobile devices and is equipped with responsive technology. It is also available on the App Store and Google Play.
“While reading applications this year, we are noticing students highlighting their exploration of the viewbook and identifying parts of campus that they feel the most connected to,” says Scott. “This illustrates the success of the viewbook.”
