QENO Accepting Applications for its AmeriCorps VISTA Project
Friday, March 07, 2014
Quality Enhancement for Nonprofit Organizations (QENO), an organization committed to building the capacity of nonprofit organizations and increasing philanthropy in southeastern North Carolina, is accepting applications for the QENO AmeriCorps VISTA Project throughout March 2014. This project strives to empower nonprofits whose efforts help alleviate poverty in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, Onslow and/or Pender counties.
QENO AmeriCorps VISTA members will serve 40 hours a week for a one year term working to better volunteer management and community outreach efforts - submissions must focus on these two areas. The next round of VISTA members will begin service in July 2014. The QENO AmeriCorps VISTA project started in July 2011 and has granted AmeriCorps VISTA members to 12 nonprofit organizations.
“Having our VISTA members has been priceless," says Linda Lytvinenko, Cape Fear Literacy Council Executive Director,
AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 40 years. VISTA members commit to serve full-time for a year, working to build organizational capacity. VISTA members generally do not provide direct services, such as tutoring children or building homes. Instead, they focus their efforts on building the organizational, administrative and financial capacity of organizations that help alleviate poverty.
QENO is a partnership between UNCW, funders, civic leaders and other community organizations to help build the capacity of nonprofit organizations and increase philanthropy in southeastern North Carolina. QENO acts an intermediary between AmeriCorps VISTA and nonprofits in the Cape Fear region, making it easier for smaller nonprofits to utilize this national resource. Instead of receiving funds from QENO, organizations receive an AmeriCorps VISTA member.
