UNCW, Greater Wilmington Business Journal Name “Pink-Trash” Coastal Entrepreneur of the Year

Pink-Trash, a locally owned and operated provider of recycling and waste collection services, is the 2013 Coastal Entrepreneur of the Year, it was announced at an event earlier today by UNCW and the Greater Wilmington Business Journal.

“I am honored that Pink-Trash was recognized as the Coastal Entrepreneur of the Year,” said President Kelly Buffalino. “It’s never easy to start a business, but we had so much local support. I would like to congratulate all of the other companies that were nominated. They play such an important role in the community.”

Pink-Trash was one of 10 Coastal Entrepreneur Award category winners recognized during a breakfast meeting held today at UNCW’s Burney Center. The other companies are:

The Entrepreneur of the Year was selected after each category winner met with the final panel of judges, which included:

  • Tom Janicki, Professor of Information Systems and Operations Management, UNCW Cameron School of Business
  • Jason Nista, Co-founder/Franchise Director, Fuzzy Peach
  • Marty Rowan, Attorney, Law Office of Marcia A. Rowan, PLLC
  • Brian Smith, Executive Coach, Cornerstone Advisory Partners
  • Ron Vetter, Interim Associate Provost of Research and Dean of Graduate School, UNCW Computer Science Department


During the event, the University also introduced Jim Roberts, the newly appointed director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). The Coastal Entrepreneur Awards is a joint venture of UNCW and the Greater Wilmington Business Journal. Created to shine a spotlight on emerging entrepreneurs in the region, the program also helps connect them with potential mentors, investors and clients as they grow their companies - and create jobs in the region.
