UNCW's student-athletes combined for a 3.112 grade point average and 12 teams achieved at least a 3.00 GPA during the recently-completed fall semester.
"We're very proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes this semester," said Director of Athletics Jimmy Bass. "The final numbers are a testament to their serious approach to academics and a wonderful ability to truly balance academics and athletics. We also appreciate the tremendous support of our coaching staff, academic support personnel and dedicated faculty."
The 412 student-athletes from 19 sports featured 126 individuals who received academic honors and 64 percent who finished with at least a 3.00 GPA.
The women's soccer team, which advanced to the championship game of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, posted the highest GPA at 3.576 and the women's tennis team was close behind at 3.521.
Individually, senior midfielder Etienne Boulanger of the men's soccer team was honored last week as the Outstanding Exercise Physiology graduate by the faculty in the Department of Health and Applied Human Sciences.
