Shane Fernando Named Director of UNCW Campus Life Arts and Programs

Shane Fernando has been named the University of North Carolina Wilmington Director of Campus Life Arts and Programs. The organization, housed under the Division of Student Affairs, oversees UNCW Presents, the Arts in Action Performance and the Leadership Lecture Series, Ann Flack Boseman Gallery, Lumina Theater, Sharky's Box Office and Game Room and the Association for Campus Entertainment.
Fernando is a 2000 alumnus of the UNCW department of communication studies. As senior class president, he spearheaded the Millennium Clock Tower fundraising and project. After graduation he moved to Washington, DC to work in the U.S. Senate. In 2005, he returned to Wilmington and earned a master's degree from UNCW in public administration in 2008. He has worked with the Campus Life Arts and Programs for the past six years.
Chief curator of the Boseman Gallery, Fernando also teaches part-time in the department of communication studies. He is the City of Wilmington appointee and 2nd Vice President of the Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts Board of Trustees. In addition, he is a public arts commentator for WHQR Public Radio, resident property master at Red Barn Studios, a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and a backyard beekeeper in historic downtown Wilmington.
Fernando says of his new appointment, "I'm humbled and thrilled to begin serving as director of this vibrant organization as it reaches its 20th year of bringing exceptional arts and education to students, the campus community and the Cape Fear region."
