Triangle Area Alumni Chapter Fall Dinner Meeting
Seahawks were found soaring into the Prestonwood Country Club on Thursday, October 8, for the Triangle Area Alumni Chapter Fall Dinner Meeting. Around 100 Seahawks were welcomed by UNCW faculty and staff at they enjoyed a wine and beer welcome reception. Guests then entered the grand ballroom for a three course meal as they were greeted by chapter president, Matt Glova ’07. As alumni and friends dined, Rob McInturf, Executive Director of the Alumni Association gave the group a rundown of what is happening across the association; Reunions, Academic Chapters, Fall Family and Alumni Weekend (October 16-18), TEALgates and Homecoming (January 29-31, 2010). Matt then discussed the chapter's progress over the last year and all of the great events that the chapter has hosted. He then turned over the microphone to keynote speaker, Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo who presented a State of the University Address. After her remarks, you could hear different alumni across the room reflecting on the chancellor’s speech and how proud it made them feel. She brought news of new construction, the student body and the awards that the university is winning, and of course the new Dunkin’ Donuts on campus! Everyone was so proud to be a Seahawk! The next Triangle event will be the Spring Mixer held in the Spring of 2010.

Durham Bulls Alumni Picnic
This year the Triangle Area Alumni Chapter soared to new heights! On Sunday, August 16, a record breaking 162 UNCW alumni and friends attended the UNCW Durham Bulls Picnic at the stadium's First Base Party Deck. Seahawks filled the party area and enjoyed burgers and dogs with other cookout items while they waited for the Bulls to take the field. As everyone rose for the National Anthem, our Seahawk party deck stood a bit taller and prouder as UNCW Junior Mary Claire Curran sang the National Anthem. Seahawks went wild! Even though Mary Claire’s performance was tough to beat, the UNCW Athletics Team put up a great show. Matt Glova ’03, president of the Triangle Chapter introduced UNCW Athletics Director Kelly Mehrtens who gave the crowd highlights from a great year of UNCW Athletics. At the peak of her highlights she introduced Basketball Coach Benny Moss who gave the crowd inside information on what looks to be a bright upcoming year. From there Coach Moss turned the attention over to the Durham Bulls. As the game was coming to an end, the Seahawk party deck buzzed with excitement waiting for Matt Glova to award three door prizes chalk full of UNCW prizes courtesy of the UNCW Alumni Association and UNCW Athletics. To conclude this great night, the Bulls were victorious over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees! Fun had by all!

Triangle Area Alumni Chapter Interest Meeting
On Thursday, October 16, 2008, alumni from across the Triangle area flocked to the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC to meet Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo and to hear the voice of UNCW.
Close to 100 Triangle alumni and friends convened to meet UNCW administrators, faculty and staff along with re-connecting with fellow Seahawks attending the event. During the reception, alumni reminisced about UNCW and all of the special memories that come along with being a Seahawk Alumni. Since the alumni of the Triangle area cannot always get back to UNCW, the Triangle Alumni Chapter brought UNCW to them.
Everyone filtered into the Grand Ballroom of the Prestonwood and Rob McInturf , Director of Alumni Relations, welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending the special event. As dinner was served, the podium was turned over to Matt Glova ’07 who spoke about how he was moved to start connecting to UNCW alumni in the Triangle area. As Matt wrapped up his comments, he introduced Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo who gave a 25 minute synopsis of what is happening at UNCW. From stories about the bright current students to updates on the development of the campus, Chancellor DePaolo wrapped the wide eyed alumni under her wing as she told the UNCW story.
The night concluded with dessert (of course), a review of the Triangle Area Alumni Chapter Bylaws and a vote on the current officers for the Triangle Area Alumni Chapter. Matt Glova '07 was named President of the Chapter, Dawn King LaSure '83 was named Vice President and Nikki Howard '96 was appointed as Secretary.
