UNCW Homecoming 2011 was a big hit with thousands of alumni, students and friends joining the festivities. Combined with the public launch of The Campaign for UNCW: Soaring to Greatness, the celebration was held February 17-20 with nearly 30 events for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and members of the community to take part in.
Alumni Awards Reception
On Thursday, February 17, the UNCW Alumni Association, the Board of Trustees and Chancellor DePaolo hosted the Alumni Awards Reception. During the event, the 2011 Alumni Award Recipients were honored. Malcomb Coley '86, '89M received the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year award; Shaun Olsen '02 received the Young Alumnus of the Year award and Charles Edward Alexander III was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year award. Alumni brought friends and family to campus to catch up with professors and former classmates as they shared memories. Each reception featured students, alumni representatives, faculty and dean's as guest speakers and many included tours.

ALUMNI HOMECOMING TEALGATE
Under the largest tent many have ever seen on campus, close to 500 alumni and friends gathered to mingle and rally on the Seahawks. Guests had a perfect view of the Homecoming parade that marched by and grew even more excited for the upcoming game while listening to guest speaker, Coach Buzz Peterson. Over dinner and drinks, fans enjoyed TEALgate games and sharing stories about their days on campus. Take a look at photos.
ALUMNI HOMECOMING CELEBRATION & CLASS OF 1986 - 25 YEAR REUNION
Over 200 alumni and friends gathered in Burney Center after the basketball game to celebrate Homecoming weekend. The group enjoyed complimentary appetizers, wine and beer as they shared their Seahawk spirit with classmates and new friends. Party goers danced to music from The School Boys, a group of UNCW educators. This year marks the third annual All Alumni Homecoming Celebration, a new tradition that is becoming a favorite and is not to be missed!
Members of the Class of 1986 gathered at the Homecoming Celebration to enjoy the milestone of their 25 anniversary of graduating from UNCW together. Class members received commemorative pins and reserved seating at the front of the ballroom. The group enjoyed coming back to campus and reconnecting with old friends. Take a look at photos.
