Career Center
The UNCW Career Center is a comprehensive career counseling and resource center dedicated to empowering students and alumni as active participants in their own career development. Through career exploration and experiential opportunities, students are motivated to expand their knowledge of themselves and the world of work in a dynamic global community.
The Career Center encourages exploration of students’ work values, interests, skills and personality as they relate to academic and career planning. With Career Center resources, professional knowledge, and support, students become responsible for their transition to productive academic endeavors and satisfying employment. The mission is accomplished through collaboration with students, faculty, staff, the community, and local, regional, and national employers. Through the use of emerging technology, the Career Center enhances outreach efforts to engage and consistently-inform students about current developments in an ever-changing job market.
Numerous jobs exist for UNCW students on campus. Jobs are designated as "Work Assist" (a traditional part-time job), or "Work Study" (for students who qualify for the Federal Work Study Program in the financial aid process). All student jobs are listed for UNCW students in "SeaWork".
On-campus jobs vary from filing papers and answering phones in departments to putting away books in the library, and from preparing food in dining locations to working as a desk receptionist in residence halls. The benefit of on-campus employment is that your supervisor(s) and colleagues will be members of the UNCW community, and, as such, are typically more understanding of the need to miss work due to an upcoming midterm, class trip, student organization retreat, etc.
For more information about on-campus employment, visit the SeaWork Homepage.
The Career Center is dedicated to providing expert services to UNCW students. The center assists students in the creation and preparation of job-related materials such as resumes and cover letters, provides counseling for career paths associated with each major offered on-campus, and organizes mock and live interviews and career fairs throughout the year.
