University Studies - Special Assignment

Dr. Cara Cilano will be working on special assignment during summer and fall 2013 to assist with the implementation of UNCW’s University Studies core education program. 

Dr. Cilano will work with Academic Affairs as she transitions from her University Studies Advisory Committee duties to help with various aspects of the implementation of University Studies at the university. Duties will include assistance with implementation of the curriculum, transfer and articulation issues, education efforts related to the University Studies curriculum, and assistance with other aspects that arise as the university fully implements this program of study.

Cara Cliano PictureDr. Cilano holds a doctorate in English from Duquesne University. She came to UNCW in 2001 and is currently a Professor in the Department of English. Dr. Cilano's primary teaching and research area is postcolonial literature, with a special emphasis on South Asia. In addition, she is interested in critical theory and contemporary literature, as well as travel and nature writing.  She has been extensively involved with the development and implementation of the University Studies program at UNCW, serving as a member of the University Studies Advisory Committee in 2007 and from 2009 through the present. She has served as chair of the USAC since 2011.
