Policies/Reports: Sick Leave Policy
The University of North Carolina at Wilmington Board of Trustees
WHEREAS, employees of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington may move from employment status in which sick leave is earned to an employment status in which sick leave is not earned for reasons which benefit both the individual and the University; and,
WHEREAS, North Carolina General Statute §135-4(e) allows a member of the retirement system to count toward creditable service at retirement "sick leave standing to his credit on retirement";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that it is the policy of the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington that all employees exempt from the State Personnel Act who change from a status in which sick leave is earned to one in which sick leave is not earned shall continue to use and to account for their previously accrued sick leave, so that if such individuals have unused sick leave upon retirement, the unused portion may be counted in calculating creditable service pursuant to N. C. G. S. §135-4(e); and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chancellor is authorized to take necessary steps to implement this policy.
The foregoing resolution was approved by the Board of Trustees of The University of North Carolina at Wilmington at its meeting on April 15, 1998.
