Interim Director of the Quality Enhancement Plan
Dr. Jess Boersma has been appointed as the Interim Director of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), effective 15 May. This plan, known as "eTEAL," is a five-year effort that will enhance applied learning at the university. It has been developed through campus-wide discussions and pilot efforts over the past two years.
Primary duties of the Director are to oversee the eTEAL program, work with various campus entities to ensure the implementation of eTEAL activities and ensure accreditation compliance, and promote eTEAL activities on campus. Dr. Boersma has been actively involved during the development of the eTEAL program and was a two-time Applied Learning Faculty Fellow working with the Applied Learning and Teaching Community.
Dr. Boersma holds a doctorate degree in Spanish from Emory University. He came to UNCW in fall 2007 and teaches courses in Iberian literatures, critical thought, Spanish language, and International Studies. His current research focuses on the Spanish state and the representation of the growing democratic deficit in contemporary Spain. He is also Director of the Team for Interdisciplinary Global Research (TIGR) and creator of the Iberian Studies Research Group for graduate students. His experience abroad includes work as a U.S. liaison and international observer in Latin America, and as a student and researcher in Spain. Dr. Boersma has served on UNCW's Faculty Senate for five years and has been a member of the Senate Steering Committee for the last two years.
