From the UNC Tomorrow Final Report: "UNC should be more actively engaged in enhancing the economic transformation and community development of North Carolina's regions and the state as a whole." The Report recommends that "UNC should increase its capacity and commitment to respond to and lead economic transformation and community development."

In accordance with this charge, UNC and the Department of Commerce have organized “formal partnerships and more regular communication between NCDOC, UNC and other entities interested in further developing the interconnection between the economic development community and our universities.”  Through such partnerships, “we can help strengthen the state’s economy and its people.”
