Senior | Majors: Marine Biology and Environmental Studies
I was awarded the Hollings Scholarship in 2009. I am currently working towards graduating with university honors while pursuing a B.S. in marine biology with a minor in chemistry and a B.S. in environmental studies. Since I would like to do research that contributes to the conservation of marine invertebrates, participating in the Hollings Program, which includes an internship at a NOAA facility, seems like a perfect place to start my research experience. I am hoping to participate in research that relates to pollution impacts, such as ocean acidification or metal toxins, on marine invertebrates. Volunteering at Newport Aquarium (Newport, KY) for 2 years has given me a solid foundation from which to build scientific knowledge. I work as a lab assistant in the Benthic Ecology lab at CMS, learning how scientific research is done. Participating in the NSF-Research Experience for Undergraduates program at Bodega Marine Lab this past summer has given me opportunities to communicate my research to others. I am very excited to apply my skills while researching with NOAA next summer!
