Spring 2015 CSURF Opportunities and Deadlines

CSURF Supplies Awards
Deadline: February 10; Up to $300

The CSURF Research Supplies Awards are awarded on a competitive basis to students enrolled in honors projects (499) or DIS (491) projects. Students in any major are eligible. These awards are offered to help support the costs of supplies needed to conduct the faculty-mentored undergraduate project. Funds must be expended this semester. Only one award per academic year. Up to $300. Details and application here. Note: There are restrictions on some types of supplies.

CSURF Travel Awards
Deadline: Rolling basis, all awards must be complete by June 10; Up to $1000 reimbursement

The purpose of these awards is to encourage scholarship among undergraduate students at UNCW to travel to professional conferences. Students must be on the program as authors or co-authors. All students must have a faculty sponsor, and faculty members must accompany students receiving awards. New: All studnets must have been enrolled or are currently enrolled in a class that requires that the student travel to the conference to present the finding so the project. Only one award per academic year. Up to $1000 reimbursement. Details and application here. Note: some restrictions on reimbursed travel expenses.

SURCA - Summer Undergraduate Research and Creativity Awards
Deadline - Likely the Tuesday after Spring Break (watch for details); Up to $5000

CSURF and ETEAL are teaming up to support faculty-mentored undergraduate research or creative scholarship over the summer. Faculty members are encouraged to submit applications that involve currently enrolled undergradate students in research and creative activities. Enhancing undergraduate scholarly activity is the primary priority for these awards, whether faculty apply to involve students in their own work or to support independent projects. Awards up to $5000 for the summer - includes $3000 for student salary, $1500 faculty stipend, $ 500 for student supplies and travel. Details and application will be posted soon on CSURF and ETEAL websites.

UNCW Undergraduate Research Fellowships
Deadline: Written application will be due in early April; interviews will take place mid-April. Details will be updated soon here on CSURF website; Up to $5000.

The Center for the Support of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CSURF) invites applications for the Undergraduate Research Fellowships for the 2015-2016 academic year. The competition's aim is to stimulate original research among undergraduate students at UNCW. The competition is open to any rising junior or senior in any department and in any major who has completed at least one semester at UNCW. The proposed project should be able to be completed by the end of the 2015-16 academic year. Each student must have a faculty mentor who assists in selecting a project suitable to the student's abilities and the timing of the awards. The project idea may originate with the student or advisor, but must be developed to a substantial degree by the student. Course credit is required and may be arranged through a Directed Individual Study (491) or through Departmental Honors (499). Fellowship awards consist of a partial tuition waiver. Awards may be up to $2500.
